BRIDGEPORT—Visiting Nurse Services of Connecticut, which
provides home health care services for residents of Fairfield, New
Haven and Litchfield counties, hosted a August recent visit by 33
representatives of the Japanese health care system. Japan is in
the process of making major changes to its public health care system
and the visitors wanted to learn more about how post-hospital care
is provided in the United States. VNS was selected by the group
after an Internet search identified VNS as one of the nation’s
finest providers of home health care services. VNS staff arranged
visits to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport and the
Lord Chamberlain Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Stratford
where the visitors were impressed by the high degree of collaboration
between health care providers in coordinating post -hospital care
for patients. Following the VNS visit, the Japanese entourage headed
for New York City to learn how such care is provided in major urban
areas. Click here to see a photo from the
visit.
